Trauma Therapy
What happened to you is not the whole story — but it is part of it.
Trauma-informed care means the work is paced around safety rather than around getting through the story. Nine of our clinicians are trained in trauma-informed and trauma-focused approaches, and they see clients in person in San Francisco or by telehealth anywhere in California.
Trauma isn't only a single catastrophic event. It's also the long accumulation — childhood environments that required constant vigilance, a relationship that eroded your sense of reality, a medical or institutional experience that left you without a say.
Trauma-informed therapy starts from the assumption that your reactions made sense in the context they formed in. Rather than pushing for a full retelling, the work builds capacity first: stabilizing, learning what happens in your body under stress, and establishing enough safety that memory becomes something you can approach instead of something that ambushes you.
Trauma-focused methods — EMDR, AEDP, parts work and somatic approaches among them — are used when they fit and when you're ready, never as a protocol imposed on your timeline.
People often arrive here after therapy that helped them function but never touched the thing underneath — or after a course of treatment that moved too fast and left them worse.
Nine Bay Door clinicians are trained in trauma-informed and trauma-focused approaches. All see clients in person in San Francisco and by telehealth across California.

A short call to describe what's going on and hear how the work might apply. You never have to give details you're not ready to give.
We match with attention to fit and to who has genuine availability.
The first sessions are orientation and building resources. Trauma processing begins only when there's enough ground under it.
Every one of these clinicians works both ways — Union Street in San Francisco, or telehealth anywhere in California. Our office is not step-free, so if you need accessible access, telehealth is available with all of them.
Our trauma clinicians are in network with Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Cigna/Evernorth and Optum — coverage varies by clinician.
We check your benefits before your first session so there are no surprises.
